If you slice your dominant hand index finger and thumb with one, you can't type. PLEASE be careful with those suckers! And if there is a little protective thingy to put on top of whatever you are slicing, use it.

1. Gack! I hate it when I do that. But with me it usually involves... |
|
a very large knife trying to cut through something really, really tough.

Bet you weren't squeezing any lemons after that! So sorry to hear of your injury. People just don't realize what a dangerous place a kitchen can be at times.

3. Been there, done that. I have to turn my head when I see chefs |
|
on the television shows using them. Some of them aren't even watching what they're doing. I cringe.

Saw lots of the food network, and it made my thumb hurt every time I watched the chefs use those suckers so casually. I get it that pros can work a lot faster than amateurs, but where are the "Don't try this at home, kids" warnings? Any bleeding is probably not shown on camera.

of the six dollar cheapies from the Asian food store. That was over ten years ago and just before I got my first puter.
Needless to say, I've cooked a bit more mindfully since then and haven't had any accidents, even with the big steel job.

trying to slice cold meat with a dull knife. And I'm very, very, very right handed. :scared:
Hope you're all right, eridani.

Hope it's better now. Mandolin schmadiline,
Use a box grater - not nearly so sharp. Shaved cheese on a grater works good. A box greater has all options. Grate, slice, shave and the other small grate.
;-)
