Recommendations for increasing signal strength |

in a home wireless network. My computers are not that far apart but the signal has to pass through thick walls and a kitchen. I am guessing that the myriad of electronic devices is causing the weak signal. Should I get a repeater to place in the kitchen?

1. Are you having problems? |

You are going to lose some speed with the wireless network on those computers not directly connected to the net via cable, etc. no matter what you do.
Mine occasionally lose signal strength (about 40 feet, through walls, a kitchen, ranging from the second floor to the basement) but I find that the problem resolves itself if I just move the wireless card (Dell - attached to my computer with a cable like a mouse).
Cnet.com has some reviews on linksys wireless routers that are supposed to be pretty good. If your reception is fading in and out you might want to try one of them.

my solution has been to route the cable to a more centrally located router (in your case, the kitchen), to allow for better distribution of the signal rather than from a repeater.
i don't know much about repeaters and their efficacy though, so i may have been retarded in my approach.
