Windows XP Updates - problem
Hey, has anyone else had an issue with Windows XP systems receiving their automatic updates in the last day or two, installing them, and then being unable to reboot into normal mode? I've encountered my 2nd laptop now where this happened - the updates automatically installed themselves last night, and upon reboot, the system keeps coming back to the "We're sorry, Windows failed to boot properly" screen. With the menu to go into Safe Mode, etc.

For now, I've had them go into Safe Mode, rollback to the previous System Restore Point, then refuse to allow the update to install.

Has anyone else seen this yet?

1. Not yet ...

But thanks for the warning. Sounds like a possibly spoiled install package.

2. My son used my laptop and did
me the favor of updating. Now I am having problems. It started on Sunday. I did the system restore and the usual scans and had some registry stuff show up with Spybot. When it was removed the laptop was ok but it keeps coming back. So I don't know if it was the update or something other spy thing but it is coincidental. It won't connect to the internet but I get on.

3. Yes - but only on certain motherboards. Stopped auto install a few months
ago for that reason.

4. Yes.
I no longer install any Windows Updates.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 screwed up my PC and I had to do a system restore. Windows Media 9 upgrade has screwed up my PC and I keep getting an error message about having unknown windows files.

So I no longer install the updates.
