Finally, they have been ordered. |

After listening to this computer whirring away for years, and realizing how much it's been driving my bonkers months upon months ago - I finally have some spare dollars shuffling around to order a new power supply and cpu heatsink/fan that are both sub 20 decibels.
Judging by some db scale web pages, my system is currently between 60 and 70.
Oh, it's gonna be sooo nice *geek swoon*

I got a Thermaltake Volcano heatsink and fan recently, and while it keeps my CPU quite cool, the thing sounds like a freight train running through my house.
Ironically, I'd gotten a new DVD burner before that, and it was so quiet I wondered if it was working properly. The CD drive I'd had before whirred like a jet engine.
Oh well...live and learn.

2. Sounds like what I initially started with |

The first fan I bought was sold to me by someone that assumed I was going to overclock, and it was like having a banshee inside my case - you could hear it around 270 degrees of corner and through two closed doors.
There was a point where I'd put in earplugs, and then put on my Sony studio headphones and blast music just to drown it out
Btw, newegg.com, cost me 70 bucks total, with Fedex saver shipping

Now, to get the HDs to power down when not being used, as they are now the biggest source of noise...
