I installed firefox, tried it and really didn't like it, I know that's heresy to some of you guys but I really did'nt care for it. Now, I've got another reason to dislike it, when I uninstalled it, it glommed on to programs that I can't open now because windows can't find firefox.exe. I need to know how to fix this. It's windows 98 plus on an ibm clone, there has to be a way to resolve this. I went to the find file program, but it's telling me there is nothing to find, do I have to reinstall this to get my stuff back?

(the file manager, not the internet browser)
Click Tools --> Folder Options --> File Types
Go through the list of extensions and re-associate them with the programs you want to use.

i'm not sure this will solve the problem but it's what i would try ...
i think, even though you uninstalled firefox, it may still be your "default browser" ...
try this: open Internet Explorer, and choose "tools", then choose "internet options" ...
in the tabbed window that opens, click on "Programs" ... my version of IE has a prompt at the bottom of the window that reads:
"Internet explorer should check to see if it is the default browser" ...
make sure the "checkbox" is checked ... if it's already checked, this process probably won't fix the problem ... if not, check the box, maybe try a reboot ... and then try one of your "glommed" programs again ...
you might try to google "internet explorer" and "default browser" ... i think the "glommed" programs are probably looking at some registry key that tells them what your "default browser" is ... it sounds like you got rid of firefox but didn't get this registry setting changed back to IE ...
let us know how you finally solve the problem ...

4. follow the steps above |
|
i think you need to make sure the "checkbox" i referred to above is checked ... once it is, restart IE and you should get a prompt asking if you want to make IE your "default browser" ... say "yes" ...
then, it shouldn't matter whether you uninstall Firefox or not ... your "glommed" programs should use IE automatically ...

Do you mean an executable, one with an .exe extension?
FF doesn't associate itself with anything except .htm and .html files, and only then if you tell it to do so. Are you trying to open a link or a program that automatically loads your browser and a web page? If it is the latter, the problem might be in that program's settings, that is it is looking specifically for Firefox. Or, as welshTerrier2 said, your default browser is still set at FF.
