Help Looking for a new web site for a dispossessed business web site.
I have a friend in the Kansas City area, who this last week had her long time business web site taken off because of a dispute between the site owner and the web site administrator. The web site administrator is getting out of the business. I'm assuming the code is still there and can be transfered to another site.

We are looking for solutions here. What should we be looking for in another site? What should we avoid? What we need are ideas for another good site and get the code transfered.

Help! This is costing exposure while she is trying to start up a web based business.

1. I noticed GoDaddy.com has pretty good customer service
They've called me two or three times in the past year just to check in, even though I'm only paying them like $3.50 per month for a server.

I personally prefer large stable companies, since I had a problem with a small company once making billing mistakes, with a woman in accounting who was actually mean toward me, the customer, when I needed something corrected.

Anyway, the first step (hopefully you already did this) is to get a copy of the code that was on the old server, back it up onto CD or something.

You will then need to get either a Unix, Linux or IIS server account from the new provider. Depending on the way the old site was coded, you may or may not need someone with web development experience to help redeploy the site.

If you are in a rush, keep in mind that a good customer service rep at whatever server provider you choose should be able to help.

2. You need a hosting company.
A good hosting company can help you do a lot of that stuff. Transferring the DNS records is one important thing. Also, the complexity of the site move is contingent on the complexity of the code. That all depends on what kind of site it is: straight HTML, Frontpage, Cold Fusion, PhP/MySQL, any combination thereof and more.

I can help. PM me. Here is the site I built and presently run with DU'er Tace: http://worldnewstrust.com

Know this: A site move may be possible, but depending on the site complexity, a new site may be a better choice.

One thing: How much traffic does this site receive on an average week? Also, is there E-Commerce on this site?

3. My friend decided to go with StartLogic.
We plan to get everything transfered tomorrow morning (3/9/08)

Thanks for all your inputs.
