What is the best way to download YouTube videos

I am an IT person, and someone asked me how to do this. I see there is software and websites out there, but I have no idea what one is legit. Anyone know or have experience?

1. Firefox with the UnPlug extension.

Downloading from YouTube is a little complex, but this makes it relatively easy. Works on other sites as well. The only trouble with YouTube downloads is that they're .flv files, which not many players support. There's a bunch, here, however:

UnPlug can be installed from the Mozilla Firefox web site.

3. Here's the Firefox plugin I use (Download Helper)

It works very well. I typically only enable it when I need it, and keep it disabled the rest of the time.

What I like about it is that you just need to be on the page where the video is, the video does not have to play, and it queues them so that you can visit several dozen links and activate the download within a few minutes, and let the machine just do the rest.

6. real player allows it

if you have it installed-- it comes up as an option.

7. I use vixy.net

it's online, free, and converts the flv file to avi or even mp3.

It's worked very well for me.
