Kensington Expert Mouse Pro Track ball mouse will not move |
|
the cursor to the right.
If I left click and hold, it will move to the right. I have opened it and cleaned it. It seemed to help for a day, but now it is back to acting up. This mouse is 8-10 years old and can't really be replaced. It's a wonderful machine. Not only does it have four standard mouse buttons, it has six programable buttons. I'd hate to lose it. It's perfect for people with Arthritis and repetitive motion injuries.

1. Just a half-assed maybe. |

I think wheeled devices generally work by turning, by friction, a rod that in turns a wheel with several holes which, as it spins, turns on and off a light source that hits a sensor, and thus sends the move signal. Any chance that the wheel holes are plugged, not turning, or the LED light path obstructed? Or maybe the mechanism that keeps the rod in contact with the ball is fickle?

2. It could be the bearing is worn out. If I stick my finger down there |
|
and move the roller it works. Cleaning the ball helps some, but only for a minute or two.

3. Sounds like the problem is that turning the ball does not turn the rod. |
|
Any way to increase the contact between the two? A piece of paper to push a spring forward or such? If all fails, there are still an assortment of trackballs available. Search newegg.com for options and reviews.

7. Maybe scoring the wheel for better traction. I tried cleaning the |
|
optics with forced air, but that didn't work. both contact wheels are worn. It might not take too much to make a difference. On a Sturmey Archer 3 spd hub, all it took to make them stop working was to have the blueing worn off the pawls. It could be the same way with this mouse.
