Oracle, Crystal Reports and Symantec questions--re: Vista
I am building a Vista image for deployment. I have three pieces of software in question:

Oracle: Does the vista ready client work with older DBs? I need to load compatible client software, but the SDBs are of an older version. I am not sure how backwards compatible this setup would be.

Crystal Reports: I have 9. How does their licensing work?

Symantec: I downloaded 10.2 which should be ista compatible. It even has a vista subdirectory, but I still get a compatability error message. Any ideas?

1. I am not sure about the
Oracle client but indications from their web site is affirmative.

Crystal reports is this

Ok Symantec can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Look on their website for the uninstall utility then try to install the correct version. Also is this a corporate version? I assume since it is 10.2. I use the 64 bit 10.2.0.298 and i have no issues and the 32 bit users are fine as well. But are you sure you want to include that in an image? I usually set up Symantec Security center to auto deploy new hosts. That way it registers the proper Update server.

2. Its sort fo a force of history thing
on the Symmantec. Only a minor popul;ation needs anti-virus because we employ Faronics Deep Freeze on the majority. The rest of devices get the updates straight from Symmantec.

The oracle stuff I managed to get a live person from Oracle, and your asertions are correct.

It looks like Crystal reports is going to be painful. I don't know where the original came from. I suspect on of my counterparts in another city has the answers on that. This should be interesting...

Vista images are HUGE compared to the XP images...
