So, my 'puter has been blowing up on |
|
me numerous times throughout the day. First I thought I had downloaded a corrupt IE7 program, so I uninstalled, and reinstalled it. Then I thought it was just when I was on POGO. Well, not so. Now, I am using Firefox exclusively only to find I cannot see the youtube videos, as I only use the Windows Media and Firefox automatically connects me to QuickTime. Okay, I am confused and (almost) computer illiterate. Help please!

1. What happens, blue screen? Or does it just lock up? |

If it is the BSOD, it will have error codes on it that can provide clues as to what is causing the problem (memory, heat, driver, etc). Then we can do a Google search for the code and get some idea what it might be.
Just a total guess, but perhaps heat could be an issue since the weather is starting to warm up. Make sure there is nothing blocking the case ventilation too.

It just locks up, screen goes black and I have to reboot. This has been happening frequently since last Wednesday. I have done a virus/trojan scan, also. Thanks for your response. I'll check back tomorrow.

Programs that allow bits of hardware to talk to the OS and other bits of hardware. If you haven't, physically go to Windows update and chose the custom update and not the express update. Update everything in the third catagory, down at the bottom.
Automatic Update does not update everything.

Being extremely technically challenged, I am providing you a link so, if you would please, you can "draw me a picture" about what I need to download. http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-usI cannot tell you how I appreciate your help. Jenn

7. I have had Firefox and IE since I got |
|
this computer in '02. I downloaded IE7 a few weeks ago and started to experience problems, SO, the other day, I removed it and reloaded it. I am still having it just blow up...screen goes black, lights on tower and monitor turn orange. I have run virus scans, defragged, removed some rarely used progrmas, etc, to no avail.
