Anyone familiar with WavePad audio editing software?
A good friend of mine, who is not a DU member, bought this software. She is having problems with it and the vendor has not been responding to requests for help.

I know nothing about this stuff, but told her I'd see if anyone at DU would be willing to be put in direct touch with her to try to help.

Is there a knowledgeable volunteer familiar with this software?

1. hey we use it at work
not bad and we never really have had a issue with the whole suite that we bought. What is it not doing or doing poorly?

2. I don't understand it at all.
She used it to record/edit talks that she gave. Here's what she said in her email:

"We bought RecordPad and WavePad software and a mike that plugs into the computer. I recorded the CDs right into it from my talks and RecordPad is clearer than the cassette tapes, but the editing software leaves a raspy hum.

The vendor won't help because we didn't order the service for a month which would allow them to speak to us about the problem--they're in Australia."

3. We use it for
editing meetings that are recorded. It uses a foot pad for dictation. i am guessing that when they are converting it they are not using the best quality bit rate. So it is probably recorded at cd quality and converted at radio quality.

4. That's a helpful idea!
I will relay that information and see if it helps her.

Thank you! I'll let you know the outcome. :hi:

5. More detail here...
My friend's husband has provided more detail regarding the problem with WavePad and asks if anyone familiar with it would be willing to correspond directly with him to help remedy the problem.

The audio files are recorded 44.100kHz in record pad and sound fine when played in either record pad or wave pad before any editing has occured.

When the file has been edited and saved in wave pad a distortion quality is added to the file.

It seems that after any editing in wave pad the file is saved with formatting values, selected in wave pad, that introduce the distortion. The values displayed on the wave pad file format form are format: PCM, Attributes: 44.100kHz, 8 Bit, Mono, 43 kb/sec.

If the file is saved in either record pad or wave pad before any editing it is just closed with no attributes changed.

When we first started working with wave pad it saved files after editing just fine but after about a week the distortion occured and we don't know enough about audio to determin what went wrong.

We hope all this detail gives your friends in DU a better idea of what is wrong. Thanks.

If you are able and willing to work directly with him to help resolve this problem, please PM me and I'll give you his email address.

7. Problem solved!
KharmaTrain in GD had the winning suggestion. Making sure files are saved in 16 bit rather than 8 eliminated the problem.

Thanks to all who shared ideas and input. DUers come through again!
