Without telling me why, my boss asked me to do research on |
|
SKYPE. Well, I am going to do so but does anyone here use the service? Is it just for personal or can it be used for business applications?
Best site to find info? (save me a ton of reading, please)

1. Does your boss just want Skype, or is VOIP an option too? |

Does your company have a T1 internet connection?
Maybe your boss just wants some kind of internet based phone system, ie VOIP. Skype is technically not VOIP but similar (Skype is peer-to-peer and VOIP uses a server). Sometimes executives use silly ways of describing technology in general like when some call any PDA a Blackberry, for instance.
So find out if your boss is totally fixated on Skype, or just wants to update the phone system. VOIP may be a better option. If just an upgrade is desired, then sales people (Skype and VOIP companies) can offer competing proposals, and effectively do all the research for you. Make a list of your company's particular needs (ie call tracking, voicemail to email, call blocking, ease of administration, maybe a web interface, etc) and determine who has the best of what you are looking for.
Let sales people do all the research for you. That's their job.
