Why can't I connect to networks I create?
I have an Airport Express. I make a network as they say. It looks good, Airport Utility sees it. I get good signal, but a network named "Linksys" is the only one that accesses the internet. I have no Linksys devices.

Here's a screenshot in iStumbler. It appears I am getting online from an unsecured network. Is this what is happening?

1. Your connection is secure so you need a password
I work on Windows 99% of the time, but I imagine the scenario is similar.

The password is setup on the router, which in my experience is hardwired to a workstation where you can get to the router in order to configure it.

If you do not have the router hardwired to a computer then perhaps the manual will say what the default password/passkey is. Then the notebook needs to have that password set in the connection.

2. I just reset the base station, reconfigured it. Still acting the way
it was before. I used the default password and a 13 character individual password.

When I try to connect to the network I just set up, the AE shows up in Airport Utility, but doesn't connect to the internet. The Linksys network still works, but the AE disappears from the Airport utility.

3. Fixed it. A setting they did not mention needed to be changed.
