Putting a news ticker on my website
I run a website for a regional organization in the area of England where I used to live before I moved to the States. The website is one of those do-it-yourself ones that you don't need to know any HTML for, from www.zy.com - I have a basic understanding of the fundamental concepts of HTML and Java, but not enough to build a website from scratch (if they were human languages, I'd be strictly at the "the pen of my aunt is in the garden" level). I have a news ticker on there from Google Gadgets, giving BBC News from around the region, but it is very big and ugly and totally defaces the home page (you can see it for yourself at www.zyworld.com/wessexsociety). I would like something like the BBC's own news ticker on there, that scrolls discreetly across the top of the screen, but that is a downloadable desktop application, I don't think there is a version to put on websites. I have seen a few similar tickers, but they are not as customisable as I would like. Can anyone suggest a way to get the same content as at present, but in a more attractive format?

1. Can you upload applets to the server?

There are a few free applets I've found you can have on your server and display with a bit of code.

Here's a website with some instructions:

2. That one doesn't appear to be free
You have to pay $495 for a licence. No thanks!

3. What are you talking about?

"The script is free for personal and commercial use. We would appreciate a small text/links to be displayed in the pages where the ticker is shown:"

I can't even see where you got that number.
