The sound of a failing hard drive
Dunno how useful this is, but a data recovery shop has put 3 dozen sound clips of various brands of hard drives behaving badly on its site:

Might be a good reference for some of you having troubles... or a harrowing trip down memory lane for the rest of you.

3. I need therapy now ...

<shudder>

Those aren't entirely realistic though. There's no lengthy streams of profanity.

Which reminds me ... I have five hard drives in my system right now and another data drive I swap out. Two of them are about 5 years old.

I need to brush up on my swearing for techies. Nothing seems suspicious yet, but I can feel it coming.

Far more satisfying.

6. My Dad loaned me his 5 lb sledge hammer.
I may have to use it!

I just sat through most of these guys' videos looking for solutions: http://myharddrivedied.com/presentations/

I have most of the info on this drive backed up so I don't want to pay someone to recover 200 gb of data for the 1 or 2 gb of stuff I forgot to backup.

The dishwasher size with the removable platters after the sprinkler system kicked off and rained on it while running.
