I'm Fed Up with NewEgg ...
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 07:59 PM by RoyGBiv
Ever since they changed to UPS from FedEx as their primary shipper a few years ago, I've had nothing but problems.

I don't have knee-jerk reactions to this sort of thing. Shit happens, I know, but this was the last straw.

I've been living with a 17" CRT that is unfocused in the middle and can't be tuned properly to prevent warped edges. It's old, only here for this sort of emergency thing. My old monitor finally gave up the ghost in a spectacular display after several years of good service.

So, I ordered an LCD, finally. It arrived DOA. No power. Notably the packaging was damaged.

I have to pay for the shipping for the return and wait 4-6 weeks to receive a replacement. No refund option is available.

If this were the only problem, I'd just be angry and deal with it, but it's not. As I said, this was the final straw, not the first one.

I ordered an entire system's worth of parts not long ago, and the entire order got lost. I inquired, got a replacement sent, received it in about a week, and it had a dead power supply and CPU in it. The packing inside was wet. That whole transaction took, eventually, three months to complete, and I spent more in return shipping costs (never mind the irritation and having to drive to the UPS store to ship it) than I was saving by buying from them.

So, that's it. I'm done with NewEgg. I'll just eat higher costs and deal locally.

1. It sounds like a UPS problem to me! They screwed up my shipment
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 09:01 PM by Breeze54
the 1st week in November. Failed to get a sig for my package and then, apparently, just 'left the package' in the hallway. WTF? Gee, guess what? Someone took the package. The UPS guy was supposed to get a sig and/or leave it at the office but did they? Nooooo! Now it's 12 days since and I found out all that happened on Monday but luckily the place I ordered the stuff from told me they'd start a trace and mail out a new order for me and it might take 3 days. It arrived the next day! And UPS rang the bell this time! ;)

I feel your pain. :(

2. It is UPS problem ...

I'd blame them exclusively except that NewEgg intentionally changed to them as their primary shipping agent. I never had a problem with FedEx, at least not one that wasn't made good in a customer oriented way. UPS simply doesn't give a damn. I've tried on multiple occasions to force a "signature required" on all packages delivered, but they ignore it. The most recent one I received was left under a hedge.

And NewEgg has received many complaints about it. When the switch was first made the complaints were rampant on the reviews of products. Using the excuse that complaints about the shipping agent didn't actually have anything to do with the product, they went on a rather thorough purging of these reviews some time ago.

Anyway ... it's their choice who they use, and they chose badly. The package I received from UPS most recently would have cost me $71 if I chose FedEx. So, I have no incentive to shop with them if that's the case.

3. UPS is f**king up a lot of stuff.
Even at work (huge corporation) we've had mis-directed shipments and all kinds of shit. Really sad.....

17. I worked at a UPS warehouse when I was in college.
There was an entire room in the warehouse where "damaged beyond delivery" packages were accumulated after each shift of unload and pack.

We pronounced UPS as ooops.

4. I havent't had any problems with NewEgg.
Everything I've ordered over the last 4 years has shown up undamaged and on time or early. I've had a couple of problems with TigerDirect.

5. That's what's frustrating ...

Many people, like you, seem to have no problems at all.

Others, like me, have been having nothing but problems.

It's very disappointing. I have been an advocate of using NewEgg for years. When the problems first began, they were very responsive. Now, the best I get is an offer to pay "half" my shipping costs for the RMA.

Oh, and they summarily reject negative reviews that mention NewEgg's service as opposed to the product itself.

Anyway ... I'll get over it, but I am done using them and probably most mail order companies.

6. I use them all the time, never had a problem
Never had anything lost, in fact, a good deal of the time if I order in the morning a part will be delivered the next day. this is without the special shipping and rush service. Sorry to hear about your trouble.

7. I think the problem is in the major hubs of UPS.
I get most of my Egg orders out of their NJ warehouses, and I get free next-day deliveries and never a problem.

I am surprised. Da' Egg is usually a lot more proactive on this stuff.

11. This is probably true ...

This thing was shipped from Memphis to Houston, and based only on memory, that seems to be an origin of problems.

Stuff that has been shipped from California or New Jersey hasn't had the same level of problems.

My last order before this one had one package sent from NJ and another from Memphis, both leaving on the same day. I got the one from NJ first, which makes no sense to me, but there you go.

10. No kidding ...

They say you have a choice.

The choice is between UPS and free shipping or FedEx and $70 shipping, which reverses any savings from ordering online.

This is no choice.

I really miss the days of FedEx and NewEgg. Almost everything arrived early, was never left in the rain or at a neighbor's house, and the tracking was far more detailed and precise. Most UPS tracking I go through ends up with me getting the package before they've updated that it's being delivered that day, which is especially annoying as I try to make arrangements to make sure they don't dump the thing on the street next to my garbage can.

9. Update ...
For the sake of fairness, I should say this ...

NewEgg is trying. They've still got me pretty torqued due to their initial brush-off, which involved a representative trying to tell me it wasn't their responsibility that the merchandise was damaged by the shipper and that I should direct my complaint to them, but I'm willing to accept I got a rep on a bad day. Been there ...

However, I still don't have a monitor worth a damn (the blur on the one I'm using is either getting worse, or it really is making me go blind) and after spending the weekend staring at the shiny new one my cousin also got from NewEgg for her system I put together this weekend and that is *exactly the same* as the one I ordered, I'm a bit unhinged about it. Damn, it was pretty.

So, I'm two weeks out (two weeks and five days from the day I ordered it) and they haven't processed my RMA yet. That RMA expires today in about two hours. What happens if it expires and they don't have it, I can't say, and I'm not sure I want to know.

In any case, they've reimbursed me for the full cost of shipping. Personally, I think this should be standard policy within a certain time frame. DOA is DOA, and the consumer shouldn't have to pay for that, especially since they're already paying with their time. But, it's not, and you have to complain to get it, but I got it.

I'll update again once this is resolved.

I doubt I'll change my opinion of UPS through any of this, and I'll continue to complain about NewEgg using them as their primary shipping agent.

12. I don't get a whole lot of deliveries but my worst experiences were with DSL
and my best experience is still the good old US Post Office. Problem is most companies won't ship to a PO box:mad:
(of course my situation is a bit unique, bad road, very rural, etc.)
:hi: Hi Roy, hope you are well other that the irritation of this post. I thought of you recently when my Dad finally ditched AOL and hired somebody to clean up his computer. I don't think they got it all, but I think he is a little happier.

13. Heya, Kali ...

Congrats on the AOL exorcism.

It is a naughty little beast that's hard to defeat. Linda Blair had nothing on AOL.

PowerWord REINSTALL is sometimes the best method. :)

I'm mostly frustrated 'cause my eyes hurt. I've got a ton of work to get done, most of it involving reading pages and pages of scanned newspapers and such, and I pretty much have a constant headache now. I was not in a prime physical condition to be dealing with such a frustration.

:hi:

15. Ain't got enough trees ...

And my apartment isn't big enough. :)

Thousands of pages, most of which provide nothing relevant. I print the ones that do, and I have a couple hundred of those so far.
