I use messenger to talk to my family and others via web cam. Works fine, no complaints. I have been seeing a lot of Skype hype lately, Oprah, intertubes etc. Aside from the international and long distance phone calls, which I don't need...what good is it? Just curious.

1. For voice, I would take Skype hands down |

I assume you are talking about Yahoo Messenger. I have found Skype to be more reliable with better voice quality than YIM.

And I find it perfectly fine. Just curious about the hype for skype(:-)) Oprah and other programs use it, but I have no need to change. Also, it is free right?

Skype is free for PC to PC calls and messages. You can call phones a very reasonable rates.
Another advantage of Skype is that you messages (both text and voice) are encrypted and do not go through a server like other IM programs. Skype only helps your computers find a path to talk peer to peer.
