any advice on installing USB2 ?
my dad is having multiple problems w/ his computer, virus warnings and a slow running system. I plan on having a look at it for him this sunday to see what i can do about that. He also has installed a new scanner so he can get his old slides scanned, but it needs a USB2 connection, which he has bought and i will install for him. Anything tricky about it? It's a Belkin usb2.

poor guy, he's 84 yrs old and has been using a computer for well over 10yrs, but it gives him fits and his first reaction is to buy a new computer, so i will try to fix up his present one. He had Macaffey installed at one time, but he uninstalled it because he read something in pc mag that it would slow down his computer, so he is going to try to reinstall it today and check for virii.

the virus warning: he's tried to explain it to me, and for what i can tell it's some kind of popup. My brother took a look at it, and set his browser to block popups, but today he tells me it's back. Until i can see the message, can't say much more about it. He's running xp on a hp.

thanks

1. First:
McAfee, to use the technical term, sucks. Nuke it and put AVG Free on there. It's good and if he really likes it, pay for the pay version. It's simple as hell to run and works very well. Uses very little system resources as well.

For USB 2.0 on a computer that does not have it installed as part of the motherboard chipset, you are gonna have to get a card adaptor that installs in one of the PCI slots and then install the drivers that come with it. Usually, this is an easy thing to do. Here is a recommendation:

i will see about installing avg for him. I think i may have before, but don't know if he uninstalled it or if it's still there and needs updating.

i'll have a look at his belkin model, and work w/it or the one you've rec'd.

hope you had a great thanksgiving.

3. AVG has improved greatly.
It is also a bit simpler than Avast, for people with exactly 0 tech skills or understanding. I am installing it more these days.
