I almost have the nerve to reinstall Mcafee
should I be talked out of it?

Last time I did is when my computer went down for weeks, but running nothing makes me nervous.

:hi:

1. I never liked Mcafee or Norton
I use Computer Associates Security Suite that is free from
my service provider. It always works great. It updates by itself and
I don't have any problems with it.

Does your service provider offer a security package?

2. Get AVG or Avast
They're free and work better. Also get Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes Antimalware.

3. Back away ...

Back away slowly ...

Then follow hobbit's advice. Hobbit is good. Hobbit is wise.

7. Roy, you owe me a monitor cleaning.
 The "wise" and "good" part got me. I thought my wife was gonna choke when I showed her that one.

8. My humble apologies ...

I'll send out a tub of monitor wipes immediately. :)

5. McAfee corporate products are great. Their home products are terrible.
I'm baffled as to why there is such a disparity. Get yourself a free anti-virus program like Avast or AVG.

6. I have been using Windows OneCare and am very happy with it.
It schedules backups, is unobtrusive on my rigs, one license will cover three computers and easily sets them up to back up to a central back up device and have not had a single virus in two years. It also monitors your updates a lttle better than Vista. It's one of the better $39.00 I have spent.
