Why won't my PC stay logged in to DU?
OK, I got my pc back from service ... they had to re-install Windows XP.

Now every time I go to DU, I have to login again. The "save this password" dialog always pops up, I always click yes, then I still have to login again.

In my Tools/Internet Options... Privacy tab, I do have DU URL in the Sites to allow.

DU is also in my Trusted Sites list.

I have cookies security set to low...

HELP! what am I doing wrong! I just want to stay logged in to DU, without creating security problems on my PC.

1. do you have a third party security program installed?
Spy Sweeper or Ad-Aware may be gobbling your cookies.

2. There has to be setting within IE that is
not saving your cookies. If you have set to low and and DU is trusted site I am really at a loss unless you have anti-spyware program that is erasing them. Do you have one that runs automatically at start-up? Or do you run one everyday out of habit (a good one too)? If so, you have to set that program to not erase DU cookies.

3. I had this problem on Firefox
I had to delete a couple of DU cookies (I block most cookies)Try that. Individually delete DU cookies and start again. Don't accept 'for session only'. Accept all cookies from the site.

you might want to try the Avant browser- it is very IE in function only faster and more secure
http://www.avantbrowser.com/

I am trying it-still don't like it as much as Firefox, but it will block all sorts of vile shit trying to get in...

5. I thought FireFox blocked all kinds of vile shit -- ??
What don't you like about Avantbrowser? I've just switched to Mozilla (FF) from SlimBrowser. I'm not crazy about it, but if I can get the answer to my question (see my thread, just posted), it'll go a long way to help with that.

6. Avantbrowser is not enough like Firefox
I want to import my faves from FF, because it's most updated and in the order I like, but it automatically imports the IE faves, I haven't opened IE for anything in months.

But I like you can change the look of it easily, FF you have to download a theme, and there's no preview. That I can find. I like FF loads (a lot). And if I'd found Avant first, I'd probably liked it better.

I just downloaded it about 20 hours ago, so I haven't had much time with it. It has tabbed browsing (tabs at the bottom) like FF. Avant, you can turn off the flash shit so if you visit a lot of sites with flash ads, those annoying ads won't show, you won't be offered a flash player going from page to page and you can turn it on easily enough if you wanted to look at this: http://www.rathergood.com/independent_woman/

Also it has a 'search favorites' function.

I haven't read your thread yet...

4. thank you for the suggestions
I am using AdAware, and have been running it and Spybot about once a day (not every day, but I try).

I will try the suggestions, and if none of them work, I'll be back!

:hi:

7. Ad-Aware and Spybot
Do not delete cookies from DU. They are the two best programs a computer can have.

8. Do you have any other suggestions?
I tried to delete just the DU cookies, as one poster suggested, but can't find how/where to delete individual site cookies, just the delete all cookies.

XP I use 98. But you can go to
My Computer
C
Windows
Cookies
Then select all and delete. Next time you reboot DU should give the cookies back that you need.
Just ignore the index.dat

10. thanks, I figured it out!
it turns out it wasn't my XP settings, the problem was in my Earthlink Total Access toolbar settings.

Got it fixed now, thank you everyone for the suggestions!
