Before I order this computer memory, could someone tell me

if this is correct? I tried to call NewEgg.com because their prices are lowest. They don't offer technical support at all.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?submit=E... (DDR)&DEPA=0

The computer I have is a Gateway 300X. The memory I pulled out of the case has the following on the label:

256MB, DDR, 333MHx, CL2.5

The memory on the NewEgg web page matches EXCEPT for the MHz. My chip is 333, their product is 266. I was told that this isn't a problem. Is this correct?

I want to go to a full 1gig by ordering (2) 512 units. This computer is used for client work and cannot be replaced until I have steady income.

Thanks!!

3. It's always easier to search by type.

4. Make sure your system can take 1 gig - it probably can
I tried to look up that model but it wasn't enough info. Some places even seemed to indicate that the 300x uses pc100/133 RAM. Is it the DX300X?

Also, typically sytems can accommodate slower RAM (eg, if it can use 333, it can use 266 - but that's slower memory so don't intentionally purchase it unless you have a reason - like it's really inexpensive, or someone gave it to you)

5. I pulled the RAM out of the box
and it physically matches the RAM in the NewEgg link posted. Same number of contacts - 52 then a notch, then 40. It also has two notches on each end.

I was laid off in January and am starting an accounting practice back in Ohio. I can't afford to upgrade the old beast and don't want to until I get settled. I've got 6 years of TurboTax software, QuickBooks and the resulting data files on it. They're backed up, but installing all over again would be a nightmare I'm not willing to have right now.

As it turns out, a DUer is sending me some RAM that is not being used and I'll see if that works. Recycling is a good thing. :-)

Thank you for your help!

6. I'm a big fan of not-upgrading, and recycling parts
Glad to hear you're getting the RAM from a DUer!
