DSO Exploits ?? SpyBot id's and deletes every single day
and I'm not currently using IE. I switched a few days ago to FireFox, and have never (and WILL never) use Outlook Express, etc.

SpyBot directs you to this site: http://security.greymagic.com/adv/gm001-ie/

which has a discussion that makes zero sense to me, except that they can't help. That much I got.

Is there a fix? Do I need to fix it? Etc.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

1. It is
Just a flaw in WIndows. Spybot will pick it up until Windows fixes it. Which may never happen.,

I found this info in the program itself I think. I spend most of my life running Spybot and it was annoying how it always found that issue.

2. Have you read the info at the link I posted?
It made it sound like more than just a flaw, or rather described it as an exploitable flaw. If I keep removing it every sigle day (or rather the 5 of them), why do they keep showing up?

3. Yes, read it.
You can not remove the flaw. You could run SPybot over and over again and it will still show up.

See this paragraph.

There is no configuration-tweaking workaround for this bug, it will work as long as the browser parses HTML. The only possible solution must come in the form of a patch from Microsoft.

And so far, Microsoft does not consider this to be something they will fix.

Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 04:32 PM by Scout
another DUer posted the answer to this problem, and it worked for me...

be right back!

ok, got it:
go to link http://www.nsclean.com/dsostop.html

download and run the tool. this will close the security hole.

It will continue to show up in SpyBot, so you need to run the tool TWICE to make sure it has done its job. Then go to Advanced Settings of SpyBot (in MODE drop down), look for Setting at the bottom left, click and go to Ignore Products, click and find and check DSO Exploit. Get out of Advanced Mode, and run SpyBot to see if it worked.

Let me know!

thanks to the DUer who posted this originally, I'm sorry I don't remember who.
