HD Backup software--Looking for a recommendation |
|
I am looking for easy to use software to backup my desktop and notebook pc's onto an USB2.0 external hard drive.
I think I want something that will automatically back up the folders I select (mostly My Documents) and my Outlook e-mails, contacts, and calendar.
What do you folks out there use?

the backup program that is included with the OS. I'm assuming you have Windows XP/2000. The backup program included is stripped down version of Veritas Backup Exec.

2. There is a neat freeware utility I use called TaskZip. |

Check on download.com or Google it, I'm sure it's still out there.
You can create a backup job by selecting the folders/files you want to backup, and pointing to a location (the external drive) to store a ZIP file of the contents.
The job can be automatically scheduled, or manually run when desired. Oh, and a cool feature is that it can be told to keep "X" number of old ZIP files so you have a history.
Only limitation is that ZIP files can't be bigger than 2GB, but for the data you want to back up, that's probably not a big deal. All my critical files zipped together comes to less than 100MB.
