1. Thanks Prisoner
Great list, good to know if your mouse malfunctions.

My son hardly ever uses his mouse, I know how he does it now.

2. Or even if you do have a mouse ...

When completing many tasks, using the keyboard is much more logical, less time consuming, and physically less demanding than using a mouse. (Yes, I said "physically less demanding" and "less time consuming." When one repeats motions hundreds or thousands of times a day, reducing the amount of motion necessary reduces strain and increases efficiency.)

Put another way, keyboard shortcuts are called "shortcuts" for a reason. As a simple example, using keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste is a much friendlier way of completing this task.

The company where I work is currently completing a change in the software it uses to interface with a database. The old software allowed me not to use the mouse at all for anything. The new software almost demands it. (Some of the shortcuts are still there, but they don't work the same way.) The time I spend completing various tasks has almost doubled.

3. LOL. That's progress for ya in the corporate world.
The people that require changes in methodology are not the ones who have to deal with it on a regular basis.

I remember it well but I sure don't miss it. I retired, due to the burnout acquired from trying to cope with their idiocy, from the corporate world five years ago. I dealt with their stupidity for 35 years. I'm glad to say I've recovered considerably.

4. My mother ...

My mother took earlier retirement because of something like this.

She worked for the state, which has its own set of problems, and someone in the legislature apparently got a good kickback and decided their computer systems needed to be migrated to an OS/2 platform. Unfortunately, the database system they used at the time wouldn't migrate from Windoze with a lot of work for which no funds had been budgeted. So, for a full year, they had to coordinate exchanges of info between two main systems, which they accessed via a third system that, IIRC, ran with UNIX. The database resided under Windoze. Everything else ran under OS/2. The network was controlled with Unix.

Data was munged, mangled, and just plain lost in profound quantities.

Ed: If you use another OS besides Windows this thread doesn't pertain to you.
