Can my new XP-64 be installed as "repair" toprior XP installation?

I installed XP-64 as a new OS and found that the transfer settings wizzard only transfers a few IE and Outlook settings - it does not transfer the old register.

So I must go back to old XP to run installed programs, or reinstall everything once again under XP-64.

Can I install XP-64 over XP, say by "repair", and thereby retain the old register and the fact that all the software is already installed?

Thanks
