How do I burn a DVD from a downloaded ISO file?
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 11:00 PM by Baja Margie
The other day I downloaded the video of the Keith Olberman, Randi Rhodes,BBV et al from a site that Ladyhawk posted. The download took 3 hrs and I saved it to C/my documents/ my videos. It is a ISO file called Rage. I can not open it to view on my computer. Also, the intent was to burn it to a DVD disk so that we could watch it thru our DVD player on the TV. I am not familiar with any of this type of stuff so a easy to understand explanation would sure help me.
Can anyone explain how to open this file to watch?
And, can someone explain how to burn this to a DVD disk?
We have a new Dell 4600 that when we purchased made sure that it could burn DVDs. It came with a program called Sony Sonic Record Now but that doesn't want to do this task or I am doing it wrong. What gives? Help!
I'll print out the instructions in case I don't get back here soon.

Thanks !

(p.s. Shit, I bought the Dell before I knew better to boycott them. Sorry.)

1. Complicated
Your ISO file is a data image file meant to be burned directly to a cd using a program such as Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator or Nero Burning Rom.

You can download a program called WinImage ( http://www.winimage.com ) to open and extract the data files from the ISO file to your computer, but to burn them to a DVD so it can be played requires further conversion- something your burning program may or may not be set up for. Nero can handle it if you purchase the correct plugin- Roxio may be able to (I haven't used it so I can't say for sure). Someone else may have more experience with it. I've never used your Sony program so I don't know what it can do.

A lot depends on what the original ISO file was set up as, also. Data, music, or video? The download site may have more info.

growisofs -Z /dev/dvd=filename.iso

or, for a CD

cdrecord dev=/dev/hdg -data -v filename.iso

here on my Linux machine.

Note that I am not trying to start anything, I'm just surprised that there isn't an easier way of doing it with Windows.

Edit: forgot to add the CD line originally.

4. Relatively easy to do
Most cd/dvd burning programs under Winblows have an option to burn images to disk.

For Roxio it is under the FILE menu and is Record Disk from Image. Roxio supports ISO files.

For Nero it is under RECORDER and is Burn Image. Nero supports ISO, BIN/CUE, and NRG disk image formats.

Peace

5. Besides burning the image you can extract it to disk and then burn it
using Isobuster. Google it.

7. I tried burning that Ladyhawk iso
in Nero to VCD...have burned image files many times but kept getting a weird message about that particular file...something about ? size not matching something or other buffer ??? In any case I gave up...As I recall Ladyhawk had a warning that she had uped the file but hadn't downloaded or checked it.

OK I just checked her site and the file has been updated recently. Also on the site are links on how to burn the CD. I'm gonna give it another go...

Heh guys, thanks alot, I ended up using "Burn It Once" and it worked easily, but I think in order to get it to DVD I might have to buy a program.
