Problem with accessing my DVD/RW Drive |
|
Hoping I can get some expert help from the DUer community here.
I have an HP zd7020 laptop. Recently, the DVD-CD-RW drive has gone dead. I can't get it to access anything on the CDs/DVDs that I put in the tray. Under the properties for the device it reads:
Device Type: DVD/CD-ROM drives Manufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM drives) Location: Location 0 (0)
Device Status: This device is working properly.
The drive is an HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N
Any clues? I tried to update the drivers, but it says I have the best driver for the device. In the My Computer window, it shows the device as a DVD/CD-RW drive, but when I click on the properties with a good DVD in the tray, it says Type: CD Drive File system: Unknown 0 bytes used/0 bytes free.....
Any help appreciated!

Ok, I checked the reader head....well, I blew on the LED and gave the head a little finger nudge....that seemed to do the trick on the DVD drive....was able to get the DVD ROM to work. But I tried to put a musical CD in there....and nada.
