Can't connect to the internet after the computer sleeps
I've had this problem for years with both Win98 and XP: after the computer has been in sleep mode - or sometimes after the screensaver has been running for an hour or so - I can't connect to the net until I reboot.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's very annoying.

1. With XP have you updated to SP2? That fixes some issues.
Also in the Network Connections right click on your connection and choose Properties. Click on Configure - Driver. Update your driver then see what happens.

5. Yeah, I really don't keep up with my drivers like I should

It's funny, because at work I have a network of ten macs to oversee and keep current, but with my home computer I'm pretty slack. :+

I'll do that, too. Thanks.

Oh, and yeah, I've put off SP2 again and again. I'm just resistant to change, at least where it involves Microsoft. One would think they can only get better, but my experience has frequently been the opposite.

2. Cable?
I'm having similar trouble since moving from DSL to cable, except my problems are more sporadic. Coming out of sleep, it's luck of the draw whether I'll have a connection or not. When the IP lease expires, more often than not it won't be renewed, and can't be renewed. And to keep it interesting, occasionally the assigned address will go *poof* for no reason at all. It's reeeally annoying to have to reboot a couple times a day.

Anyhoo... have you tried setting the NIC so it doesn't power down during sleep? Connection --> Properties --> General --> Configure --> Power Management --> untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Reboot.

6. I've had lots of problems with the sleep mode as well,
I just disabled it, same with the screensaver. Plus the screensaver just uses resources that could be utilized elsewhere.
