Wanted: gizmo that will remotely restart my cable modem and router...
So, Comcast is looking to get me to buy their (unlimited) telephone service?

OK, but why the hell would I want VOIP telephone service when I have to reset my cable modem + router at least THREE TIMES A DAY?

I can be right in the middle of two clicks, and boom - no internet. Unplug / replug the cable modem to reconnect and then do the same with the router so it will get another dynamic IP address (remember the old days of a STATIC IP?) and I'm back in the game, but it's a hassle.

So, what I'd LOVE would be some gizmo I could hook up to (one of my) PC's and it would periodically ping a remote address like every 5 minutes. If it fails (or on command) it would turn off the power to an outlet and the immediately turn it back on again, resetting the two.

What I'd really want would be able to do such remotely (from my wireless notebook) but turning off the power to the router would then disconnect me from the network which would be needed to turn it back on again!

Is there such an "remote reset power" switch?

PS: X10 is out, if you know what that is, because X10 modules must be plugged directly into the wall and I don't have a free socket.
