laptop display problem

hi folks ...

i'm having a problem with the display on my laptop ... it's running Windows 2000 ... about a week ago, my niece closed the cover which caused the laptop to shut down ... after rebooting, the problem appeared ...

there's a black border all the way around the "Desktop" ... it's about 1.5 inches wide ... the Desktop used to fill the entire monitor but now it's reduced to an area inside the black border ...

i was able to fix this (i.e. eliminate the black border) by going to the next higher screen resolution setting but everything using that setting is too small ...

how can i eliminate the black border on my display for any screen resolution i choose?

any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated ...
