Firefox install question. |
|
I have read that you have to un-install the old version before you install the new. I have saved the profile folder and want to know if I have to save anything else before I un install the old?

1. No, there's no need for this now (usually) |

You backed up your profile folder just in case and that's good. Just use the Firefox installer and it'll take care of everything automatically. In the rare even there is a problem, simply uninstall Firefox, delete the corrupted profile folder and replace it with your backup. Reinstall and all should be gold.

I was reading up on 1.0.6 at the FF forums and this seems to be a good build.

To expand a little, the whole bit about having to uninstall the old version before installing the new came about when the project was still in Beta testing, that is before the 1.0 release, and before it had a fully functional installer. It became widely popular in Beta, so more people than is typical started using it, and it got around as one of the "negatives" of FF that you had to uninstall the old version before updating.
Since the 1.0 release, and a proper installer, this is not true.
Backing up your profile is always a good idea, especially if you use extensions or themes. I've had both corrupt my profile. But, with a backup, you'll save yourself a big headache.

Everything looks the same only better, I hope. I think I spoke too soon. I can't get bookmarks to open in a new tab. They open in the active tab. Any ideas?

9. Hey. You're welcome. Glad it worked out. |
|
I don't use that extension myself and couldn't try it out right now because I'm using V 1.5 Beta 1.
