Importing Video / Audio question

Is there an adapter that will allow me to import video (like from a VCR/DVD) or audio (CD/tape) to my computer? For video, what I've been doing is hooking up my DV camera to the VCR, recording it to the camera, then plugging my camera into the USB port and importing it to the computer that way.

I would just like to bypass the middleman and plug the VCR directly to the computer.

Video capture card or external video capture device, got mine for around $50 bucks, you can get less or more expensive depending on your budget.
