monitor display noisy
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 10:48 PM by ellenfl
i just bought a microtek lcd (tft) monitor and cannot get the noise out of the display. sometimes the pic is great, other times it is totally pixilated with a red overcast. i do a lot of digital image processing and need a good monitor. anyone have any ideas on how to get a clear pic on this monitor? i increased the display resolution but that didn't help. i'm getting tired of constantly adjusting it.

the display adapter is sis 630/730. should i try upgrading the adapter driver? the computer is about 5 years old and was bought at a computer show (iow, it's not a name brand).

the bios is american megatrends but an asian version that is not supported, so i hope that's not the issue.

some specs:
amd duron 850 mhz
1008 mb ram
xp sp2

p.s. my system says the installed driver is version 6.13.10.2090 but the driver i downloaded is v2.08d. huh? anyway, i can't tell if the downloaded driver is an update but i am assuming it is because the installed one is 5 years older. what do you think?

1. Did you install the monitor stuff that came with it?
I forget the details, but there is usually a color management scheme and PNP monitor "driver" & stuff.
You'd delete the old monitor and then install again from the CD or whatever.

The other thing to check (after the monitor stuff) is the display advanced settings, looking for display management stuff that indicates you have a LCD now instead of what you had before.

The monitor should have a "natural" resolution, 1024x780 or 1280x1024, and 24/32-bit color is good.

I am skeptical that it's the driver for the video card, although it never hurts to check the manufacturer's site. Same comment applies to the BIOS.

Then there is dirt and bent pins and the like.

2. there is no cd. the manufacturer told me plug'n play.
also, this one is replacing an lcd monitor of a different make that just crapped out on me.

the info says the res is 1280x1024 but i can't live with the size so i have it set at 1024x780. i did try the higher res but the problem did not go away.

i will check for bent pins.

thanks.
