I've been "downsized"! Now I need to downsize my DSL/internet connection
I currently have Verizon DSL (pay by month) which I got "way back when" they first started
and am paying about $45.00/month for this service.

I need to find a less expensive service as the internet is important to me.
I use it to read DU:hi: ,and the news and I do alot of research. I'm also an avid eBayer... I don't use it for gaming or video downloads much (mostly clips from here).

So, I'm asking for your advice-you guys always come through for me!!
Help!

1. Actually, I'd consider asking in a different forum
Cost and quality of service differ from state to state, city to city. I'd post in your state forum and ask what people in your area are happy with.

2.  verizon dsl for $14.95 a month
this is waaaaay better than dial-up although the service only uses a 768kb line ... it's not available everywhere but it might be your best bet if you're trying to balance fast with cheap ...

here's a link to more info: http://www22.verizon.com/forhomedsl/channels/dsl/?LOBCode=C&PromoTCode=HPDL1&PromoSrcCode=L&POEId=TL1HP

3. Thanks for the info.
I didn't realize that costs could be different state-wise.
I've been looking at the Verizon DSL for 14.95 but wasn't sure how slow it would be since I'm spoiled now, lol.
Thanks again for your advice.

4. try the slow dsl first
if you don't like it, you can always upgrade ... the next price point, which is what i use (i'm in MA), is $29.95 ... that gets me a 3mb line which is more than fast enough for my current needs ...

btw, Verizon is currently installing fiber optic all over the state ... it should be widely available in Eastern Ma by next summer ... i think the plan is to offer two tiers of service ... one is supposed to be (i think) about $34.95 for a 5 mb line and the other will be $44.95 for a 15 mb line ...

Verizon told me that they plan to introduce digital TV service over the fiber optic line (you need the 15 mb line for this) within the next year or two ...

5. i went with my cable company (adelphia).
since i have the premium cable package, they offered me cable internet for $20/mo. couldn't pass up that price, even with the additional $5/mo i have to pay for the modem. check with your long distance provider or cable company.
