general computer speaker question |
|
a set i have has a hard-wired power cord, plug in to outlet, plug to computer = audio. No problem there, but they are really old and fuzzy.
picked up a couple of sets at a yard sale with no power source (ac/dc converter) and am curious to what they require. One has a 15V, 1.1a designation which i suspect needs 1.1 amp converter, but most of the extra converters i have on hand measure in mA. The other doesn't say what it needs, but most of my converters (300-600mA, 12V) fit the connector.
so, is there a rule of thumb to apply here? I don't want to fry them, just have them work for voice audio such as Cspan, etc. I don't plan to be rocking the house with tunes, maybe an occasional web based file, etc.
thanks for any info. dp

The lower power supplies may work but at a lower volume and probably more distortion.

so a power supply of 1A or less should be sufficient for 'most' computer speakers? The one set that doesn't specify has no brand name etc for me to look up info, they are the type that hang on the sides of the monitor. I'll check with a few of my converters and see if i can tell a difference in sound quality.

3. Don't forget to check the polarity. |

There should be something about current draw and/or wattage on the amps. Then you can compare with other audio amps as to the size of the power supply.
