My new laptop (Dell) has a DVD drive but is not able to view DVD's is there some shareware software I need to load to make this happen?

is almost the defacto standard DVD movie viewer, and is usually included with new computers (and add-on DVD drives). If it's not installed on your new Dell, it's possibly on one of the restore disks, probably the application disk. I worked on a Dell yesterday, and Power DVD was included in the cd kit as a separate cd, so just look around for it.
