My frustration exceeds my embarassment at asking a dumb question. Something's slowing up my computer, and I notice that it's taking up 1,337.00 MB. Even to me, that seems like an awful lot. Please educate. Thank you.

There are a number of programs that synchronize your computer's clock to one internet source or another. Try googling the exact name of the program.
Also open up CONTROL PANEL>ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. See if you can find it in that list and uninstall it.
