I was on a board they other day where I had previously believed that I was anonymous. When I opened up the page a little window opened up saying "Hello {My Real Name} would I like to donate to this site through my Amazon account?" Well isn't that nice! Amazon is sharing my name and who knows what other information with other totally unrelated web sites. Has anyone read about this or had it happen to them?

1. This has been around awhile ... |

Freaked me out the first time I saw it, until I realized what was happening. Further reflection freaked me out again, but it's not quite the problem I originally thought.
Technically, it's an advertisement in the way it is presented on a website. An embedded link calls Amazon's server, which looks for one of its cookies on your system. Finding it, it personalizes the ad.
To prevent this, always log-out of any online accounts you have, or better, delete cookies on a regular basis, like every time you close your browser.

I could not see any way to logoff of Amazon. I blew away their cookies though.
