Quick question: can you store a PC & monitor where it gets below freezing? |
|
A friend running out of storage space wants to store his old PC (as a backup, doesn't want to give it away) in his garage where it gets below freezing.
Assuming that he packs it in moisture tight trash bags and waits for it to warm up before using it again (if ever), should there be a problem?
Esp wondering about the (CRT) monitor...

1. Shouldn't be any problem |
|
as long as it all stays dry. I've never had any problems with stuff I stored in the garage or even inside the camper truck.

2. I would be careful about sealing it in plastic bags. |
|
If the garage is dry, it might be better to leave open to air and just cover for dust protection.
If they are sealed in plastic inside at room temp, condensation WILL occur when placed in a colder temp. There are some chemical drying agents available that could be used inside the bag when packaging, bu might cause problems on their own.
Just my opinion.

4. Always a good idea to let it acclimate for 24 hours |
|
b4 turning it on after storing in cold or humid conditions.
