Can't remove program, can't make it work - HELP! |
|
Something with batshitty with my copy of The Bat! on my desktop (win XP). When I tried to uninstall it with the add/remove programs app., it gave an error. So I tried installing the newer version of the Bat! over the old one (which is how The Bat! is set up to be updated). That worked just fine, but when I run the program, I'm still getting the "windows encountered a problem and needs close" message, and then it closes down.
So then, I thought, "Well, it's already fucked up", so I just deleted the whole The Bat! folder, and then installed it again. And like before, installation went fine, then "error" and close down.
I don't know why it's doing this. I hadn't tried to anything interesting to the oprogram or the files or directory or anything. It just started doing it.
I'm assuming it's a registry problem, because even after deleting the folder and installing new, my old email folders showed up again in the tree.
but am not courageous enough or knowledgable enough to go in and try to sort it out without some help from the experts first.
I have no idea what the hell is happening. Never encountered a problem like this before.
Thanks in advance!

1. Not sure about fixing your problem |
|
But try going into Safe Mode and do the add/remove program thing.
Get a reg cleaner program and run it, as well.
Other than that, have you tried asking the people who make "The Bat!"?

2. Have you tried installing the new version to a different directory?.. |

I had a similar problem with updating to the free AVG7, which kept insisting, as did the 'add-remove' control panel, that AVG6 could not be removed, because it was missing what was probably a dll file, which it did not name lol. I had originally installed it on a partition other than the C drive, and finally just let it install itself to the C drive and that worked. (I had also searched for and removed several registry entries, but was still having the problem.) Oddly, after it installed itself, it found my prior reg code and entered it into its new configuration.

3. Thanks, Guys! Got it solved! |

Just deleted everything from the registries and deleted the whole folder, then started over with a fresh install.
All is peaches and cream now!
