I just saw an ad for Napster. My son told me to stay away from that |

Napster was a peer-to-peer filesharing program, in fact it was the original that began the P2P boom. If you're swapping files directly with strangers, then yes, you need to be mindful of port security, careful about choosing a filesharing program, and wary of files you receive.
However, Napster is no longer a P2P program. It's a commercial service, a repository of music for streaming/downloading/purchase. It's not much different than watching videos at youtube or downloading files from CNET.
