How to make a hyperlink NOT display the URL?
Hi, computer people.

I'm trying to build a simple website using a template from Verizon.

How do you get a link to display as something like "democratic underground" rather than "http://democraticunderground.com"?

There is an "insert hyperlink" function that apparently is not working.

Thanks in advance!

1. it's done with an "anchor" tag

here's how to do it ...

if you code your anchor tag like this, the words "democratic underground" can be used as the link that users click on:

<a href=www.democraticUnderground.com>democratic underground</a>

doing that would yield something like this:

one of my favorite websites, the democratic underground, has very helpful people in their computer group ...

note that on DU, it's done a little differently ... here it's done as follows:

<link:www.google.com|this is a link to Google ...> (Note: you have to substitute square brackets for the angle brackets to make this work)

btw, if you're trying to learn more HTML, you can learn all sorts of tricks by reading many of the posts in this series of threads:

3. Another good HTML link is
Webmonkey.
They have great cheat sheets, special character codes,
and entire sections on links.
