Puking lovebird
My little black-masked African lovebird will not stop puking! He eats and eats and then pukes it up...almost always in the same place. He has built quite a little tower of puke. He has not lost weight...and he is still very active (I got him a big-ass cage so he can actually fly in his cage). He still sings, and "talks," and such...but I am just worried. Does he need a mate? Or is something more serious happening? His BM's are OK...nothing out of the ordinary. There have been no drastic changes to his diet...we have started giving him fresh veggies the past two weeks.

Any ideas?

1. It Could Be Normal
Many birds (I know Parakeets do) regurgitate to feed their mates and offspring. It's possible that if he's alone (no mate or offspring), he may have transferred his bonding to some object in absence of a mate or offspring and is attempting to feed it.

I had a parakeet that bonded to my curtains and would try to mate with and feed (regurgitate on) the curtains.

2. Great site for bird people to check out...link
Up At Six Avian Chat Communities
http://chats.upatsix.com/

They have a forum where you can ask the experts, and I notice they also have a forum especially for Lovebirds.

I have found great recipes for my CAG on this site as well as great ideas for toys and games.

6. Thanks...I think I found the problem.
It seems Ceasar is in love...with his toy! I finally found a site that broke it down. When I saw he had a particular routine and was rubbing up on a certain toy, I put 2 and 2 together! He is trying to mate with his favorite toy! Now, I am afraid I will have to remove it, at least for a little while. Although he has lost no weight and is actually more active, I am still a little worried about him.

Thanks for the input!

7. My Grey regurgitates to herself. At first I was prepared to receive
the warm stuff, but she kept it. Fine by me. Does that mean she is in love with herself? I think it is a good thing that your bird is that happy.

It is their nature to regurgitate, did they recommend (at the site you visited) you remove it? It might actually, stress your bird to do so.

8. Birdie Love
The site does recommend removing the toy to help cease the behavior, if excessive. With Ceasar it is excessive! I am still debating what to do, I have have to just suck it up and get him a mate.
