One of our best adoption events ever
We adopted 12 animals this week. It was an awesome week. Besides the puppies, who always go fast, we adopted several adult dogs to great homes.

Here's a few of them:

Billy and his brothers and sisters all lasted about 48 hours from the time we put them on the website to the time they went to their new homes. Check out his eyes. They're ice blue. I was a little concerned that he could have vision problems but he sees fine. Unusual eye color for a black dog.

I'm especially proud of Dora's adoption. She was picked up by animal control and it was discovered that she was heartworm positive. They were going to euthanize her but before they could she had puppies. Animal control decided to let her have the puppies and once they were weaned they would put her down. Too late. By that time they had fallen in love with her. They called us, we took her and treated her for heartworm. We got her in August and she was not available for adoption until two weeks ago. She's a shy little girl but very loving. She went to a great home with two little girls.

Smokey was pulled from a kill shelter and we had him only about two weeks before he was adopted. He's a really cool dog. I was sitting in front of his exercise pen and felt something on my shoulder. I turned my head, and he was resting his chin on my shoulder. A great dog.

Check out our website for all the dogs who found homes. There are some real beauties there. But personally, I think they're all beautiful.

Our website and our petfinder websites have been very successful. We had a lot of people who came up looking for specific animals who they had seen on our website. And I have to say, as I pat myself on the back, that I'm the person who designed and manages the website. :D

1. You guys do great work!!
My very first foster - Marley the red tick hound - was placed last week. He returned to me yesterday because he couldn't get along with the adoptive family's cat. We even did a cat test and took him to a home w/ 3 cats but he became fixated on the cat in his new home. I hate that he failed but it sure was good to get the fellow back yesterday.

7. Our fosters have been returned twice
We had a lab puppy named Hardy and about a week after he was adopted he was returned because they were moving. I would have thought they had an idea that could happen before the adoption but apparently not. He was adopted the very next week.

Our current foster, Spencer, was adopted and returned because their current dog kept trying to beat the crap out of him and they didn't want him to get hurt. I can understand that. We picked him up immediately when they called and explaned the situation. We want what's best for the animals. He'll find a home pretty quickly. He's a great dog, very loving and gently but playful at the same time.

9. You should get attached to them
By fostering them, you are volunteering to love them until they find a permanent home. We're on our 6th foster (we have five of our own dogs) and there has been something special about each one. I've said more than once over the last year "if we didn't have a house full of dogs, I'd keep this one."

But you keep in mind what your job is and you feel good when they do find a home.

10. Billy's eyes aren't so strange
If you look carefully at him, you'll see Dalmatian heritage. Hence the eye color.

13. Good I.D. - Billy does look like a Dalmation!
You must own/love Dalmations to have picked up on it.

I have a lab so I just thought he was a lab with mysteriously blue eyes.

:hi:

14. No, my breed is Bouviers
but we see a lot of Dal mixes in rescue. You're probably right about the other part being lab.
