Is there a cat rule about mandatory bathroom attendance?
I mean, is it written somewhere that no human may enter or remain in a bathroom unaccompanied by a cat? Why do they do that?

2. Yes. In Paragraph 12, Section 4 - it plainly states
that "All humans who are going to be seated on any height chair from which they could potentially reach down to pet a cat are to be accompanied by a cat (more than one if possible) at all times."

You cat hasn't shown you the official Feline Manual?

:)

8. Paragraph 12, Section 4A
If at any time a human being sits, thereby forming a lap, the cat is permitted full and free access thereunto without fee or penalty, regardless of the purpose for which the human sits or the lap is formed. Any attempt to restrict lap access is directly in contravention of this provision, and is punsishable at the discretion of the cat.

3. Seems to be but you ought to try
getting into the bathroom with cats and ferrets. At least cats sit around. The ferrets proceed to investigate everything they can and it must be a rule for them that anything that can fall must be pushed off onto the floor.

5. Yep, every morning, 2-3 follow me into the bathroom,
and always an audience outside the door when I'm leaving.

Sash attacks the toilet paper, nilla and mischief like to jump in the tub, on the sink, hang off the towel till it falls etc. Oh, and if I don't wear shoes, they think it's an invite to attack my toes.

20. Excellent Story! I had just closed the door when suddenly, "Whump!"
They scared the daylights out of me the first time. I'd awoken in the middle of the night and groped my way to the bathroom. Half-asleep, I had just closed the door when suddenly, "Whump!" The bathroom door flew open, and a small tabby cat stood illuminated in the doorway. She gazed steadily at me before turning away. My heart raced. I felt like I'd been given a warning visit by the kitty Mafia: Keep the door open, or else.

9. our dogs must be reading the wrong manual ....
they also accompany us into the bathroom... they figure if we watch them pee they can watch us pee

our newest feline addition - Calypso (now 4 months old) - races into the bathroom. Plays with sea shells on the back of the toilet, hops in and out of the tub, grabs toilet paper and demands attention

11. Of my two current fosters,
Leo RUNS to the bathroom as soon as he knows I am there, and practically slides on his back into optimal belly-rub position, purring from the moment he crosses the threshhold; while Jennings, as his name implies, is much more dignified about it, simply walking down the hall with his fluffy tail held high, and then sitting just inside the doorway to watch what a spectacle Leo is making of himself.

13. Is it the Bathroom Rule or the No Closed Doors rule
I have never met a creature who is more angered by closed doors. She becomes FURIOUS if a door is shut.

I think the bathroom visits are just to make sure we're not surreptitiously opening cans of cat food, or playing with catnip mice while behind a shut door.

15. Not only will Althea follow you into the bathroom, but if you have your
pants around your ankles, she will make every attempt to climb into them and curl up in one pantleg.

It's very awkward :).

of ferret in her? Pants legs are never safe from ferrets, even if you are standing in them. Now my cats do like the curl up in pants but they have given over the legs to the ferrets since they were losing that battle anyway.

19. The short answer: YES
The more detailed answer: The human, when sitting on toilet, must make self available to cat for tail petting session. Then human must pick up cat and put him on lap (the cat in question is a male, Boots). When cat mrrps, human must pet cat in bathroom.

Bathroom door must remain ajar until cat decides to leave under his own power.

21. You mean like this?

Every single time! See, if she's between the shower curtain and the liner then I don't know she's there!!! Oh, she's so darn clever! She also tears in as soon as she hears water in the tub. Absolutely fascinated by it. She and her sister like to play with drips, too.

Gawd, I love 'em!! :loveya:

26. one shreds the other steals
Sash always goes for shredding the rolls. We always close the bathroom doors so she can't get in on her own and play and shred. Its a big opportunity for her that she's always alert for.

She only gets in following ppl, and then we have to protect the tp.

Today I changed a roll that was almost empty. When I put it down to put the new one in. Sasha knocked down the roll that was just emptied so she could play with it, Nilla came over and batted her with his paw, opened his giant mouth, picked up the roll and and walked out with it.

I guess he put in in his spot. They all have stash spots. Apparently he's keeping it.

I thought it was so cute.

had to come in and sit on my lap while I sat on the throne. She would jump up there and just make herself comfortable and purr away. I think they like that you're relaxed and at their mercy.

30. i can't USE the bathroom...EVER...
without my siamese jesse being right there either at my feet (if i'm standing), or on my back (if i'm sitting) or on the sink in between...

there's just something about the bathroom and MY use of it that he just adores... and the strange boy purrs like crazy when he's in there with me...

also, if i ever shut the door while taking a shower, he will throw himself against the door, making quite a fuss, until i open it for him. also, if i ever take a shower, and close him up in there WITH me, without leaving the door cracked for him to go to and fro, he cries like there's no tomorrow.

in fact, i don't think i've ever used the bathroom without him being in there.

thank goodness he doesn't use my bathroom sink as his toilet anymore, like he did when he was a young kitten...

31. Always, everyday, no matter what ....
they follow us into the bathroom. The one issue comes when we have visitors who close the door firmly. There's always a kitty on the outside screaming to get in. My dad thinks it's hysterical, my mother isn't amused at all!

33. Same situation in my house
if a guest is using the bathroom, Oberon and Puck are outside, howling and pawing at the door, and squeezing their paws under the gap at the bottom. It cracks most people up!.

Oberon comes tearing into the bathroom whenever I go in there. He either wants "laptime" (not easy with a giant Maine Coon) or a drink out of the sink. My late beloved Peewee was exactly the same!

35. The paw under the door thing is just too
funny. Mine do that all the time too. I've never been able to figure out whether they're trying to open it or reach out and touch whoever's on the other side. They're so clever - it's hard to know what's going on in their cute little furry heads.

My Janeway figured out how to open louvre doors by laying on her back and popping the hinge - took her about 3 tries to make it work, and there was no looking back. I have to check every time I go into the linen closet, because she's often popped the doors and hiding between the clean fluffy towels. Oy!

Otherwise, I seriously wonder why they'd stay with me in the bathroom. Sometimes, I don't even want to have to stay there with me.

My SO came in to use the toilet (only one in the place). But then in came the cat, to use the litterbox. And it's a small bathroom.

So much for my sweet-smelling vanilla bath oil....
