Incontinent chihuahua
Driving me insane. Scared sh**tless of all men, including me. Well that is not true, she takes a dump when spooked. Won't come out of the cage when I am around, even to eat. Pees in her cage, pees on the couch, cowers at my every move. When Fiance Worst Username Ever is around, she is totally fine, but I am getting tired of dumping resolve on every couch, carpet, etc in the house. Help.

1. Talk to your vet
rule out a medical problem, there is also a medication that she can take to help with bladder control (phenylpropanolamine). How long have you had her? Do you know why she is so submissive?

2. about two months
she is two years old, we are the 3rd owner. We believe she was abused by the first owner, but can't be sure. I am thinking the vet is the place to go.... didn't know if anyone had any tricks up their sleeve for training..

3. I think time will solve this problem.
We have a formerly "pet&pee" dachshund (as the vet termed it.) He wasn't abused but my son used to play a little too rough with him so that when he got excited, he'd roll over on his back and pee like a fountain! We used to let him sleep with us but one night, I just nudged him and he peed. That was it as far as sleeping with us!

I tried some doggy diapers but they don't make good ones for that sausage-like body of his -- I couldn't get his weeny covered.

We just loved him and tried not to startle him or make loud noises. We didn't allow him on the furniture and when we needed to pick him up, we tried to steer him to uncarpeted areas and turned him over immediately -- he seemed less likely to pee like that. He rarely does it any more -- maybe once every six months.

4. Poor Baby.....
I'm still having problems with accidents with my Lilly who is one. I've trained many dogs but have never had a little dog before this. What I have been told by trainers and vets is that little dogs are harder to train. You also have traumatic issues to cope with as well. My Lilly will only rarely mess in her kennel now but still has several deliveries in the house on a weekly basis. I take her out eight times a day on a regular schedule and hubsie takes her out at 2:30 am. I drew the line with the middle of the night trek around the yard. If she is not in the kennel she is within view of me at all times so that I can catch if she starts to squat. I've also started keeping a "delivery chart" to see if I can see patterns that I might be missing. She drives me crazy cause she has accidents frequently right after I take her outside. Sometimes right after she goes out there. I'm needing to pull up the carpet in my bedroom because of her messes. It was going to be done anyway but will be sooner rather than later. She's not on the furniture unless I'm right there with her and so far she hasn't ever messed on my bed. I just know that the little light will turn on in her doggie brain and I continue to hope that it will happen before I'm old and incontinent myself. I don't know if I'll be able to find anyone to clean up after the both of us.
