just passing along this info to dog owners --- especially NEW dog owners
some dogs are 'allergic' to the red-colored bits in their food. they can't properly digest the red-dye and it causes diarrhea. Switch them to a food that doesn't have the red-bits in it -- the color is just there for the owners anyways -- dogs don't care what color the food is as long as it's food
we feed ours pedigree -- but there are other brands out there without the color-bits. Just watch out for brands that have alot of filler and not much nutrition

unless you want a vegetarian food, look for meat as the first or second item. by products are not meat- they are undigestible fillers of no mutritional value. the big box pet stores all have a couple of good brands for that are affordable. nutro-max (?) i think, is one that petsmart sells. (foggy recollection here) i have a friend who gets me cannidae, another small label. i was surprised the first time i spent an hour reading the label of every brand in the store. science diet, btw, is one of the worst. vets push it, but there is a lot of back scratching that goes into that. like they get it free, so that when people ask, they can say- i feed it to my dog.
