We've had a monsterously busy two weeks in our rescue group. We've been finishing up the paperwork and our 501c and PetSmart partner numbers are a done deal so we're officially a PetSmart partner and a non-profit. Also, about two weeks ago we were inundated with puppies. We went from 42 animals to 70 animals. We've adopted almost 40 animals over the last three weekends, including many adults who we have had in our group for a while.
On a sad note, we had to put Peanut down. Peanut was an 8-yr old Wire Haired Fox Terrier who had been tied to a tree and abandoned. He was our poster dog for Christmas. The vet found out he had chronic infections, hypothyroidism, couldn't hear and could barely see and was living in constant pain. As much as we wanted to find a home for the old man, we felt it was kinder to let him go to the Bridge.
Dammit, now I'm tearing up. He was a good boy and would have made someone a great pet if only he were healthy.
One last picture of Peanut:
This past weekend we found homes for 13 dogs and 6 cats. But man, are we tired. This has turned into more work than my full time job. We work virtually every weekend at the adoptathons, I maintain the website, and I serve on our board, at least until we can get someone else to step up. Oh yeah, we foster too.
But it is worth it. Our 12th and 13th fosters found homes this weekend and in spite of all the work I and all of our volunteers feel great when we find homes for our dogs and cats.
