Our Rescue just got some bad news about one of our dogs, need info:
The rescue I work with found Bob, a sweet Bluetick Hound in a rural VA shelter, and we've since found out that he has severe hip displasia, and will require $2000 for a hip replacement.

We're not going to give up on him, he has such a will to live, even with the pain that he's in.

Here's his petfinder listing (pictures will be up soon):

http://www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=5787489&adTarget=&SessionID=43f07f43083cc49d-app2&display=&preview=1&row=50&tmpl=&stat=

Does anyone have any resources on emergency vet care grants for rescues? We're in VA. I've found some that will give individuals grants, but am still scouring the web for rescue resources.

We're emailing all of our supporters for donations, and having a yappy hour to raise money, as well as requesting sponsors. We'll get there eventually.

Thanks for any info that you can send my way!

2. any contacts with a local newspaper?
Most papers have at least a "shelter" feature once a week -- find out who's in charge of that or the Human interest section.

Write to them, tell them the story about Bob - and ask if they know of any grants/funding for this sort of thing. Makes a good story and they may just "feature" it in the paper -- will probably bring in a few dollars and more than a few people willing to adopt.

I know it sounds sort of sneaky to tug at heart strings - but that's when people open their wallets

7. I'm going to research this today. We just found out that one of the cats
we rescued has some sort of intestinal blockage that may require surgery.

When it rains, it pours....;(

3. What about contacting local tv stations?
Maybe they would do a human interest story. I adore bluetick hounds - they are such special dogs and hounds are unappreciated in our society. I wish I could help - good luck!! (If you are anywhere near Roanoke, contact WSLS - they run these stories)

8. This takes a while but we've raised a lot of money this way
First, we have a lady who makes dog cookies and sells them for a $1 donation at our adoption events. She raised several hundred dollars over the course of about 2 months.

Second, she put together a gift basket and listed it on e-bay as a fundraiser for pet surgery. Got over $100 for that.

Finally, she called some of our adopters and told them of our need and several gave generously for the surgery.

Between all three, she raised enough for knee surgery for one of our dogs.

11. I love hound talk!
My choc lab is a lab/hound cross, I am convinced, because he talks to me like a hound -- oh, woo, woo, o, o, o...
