I still have a Chihuahua who likes to eat poop. Anyone have any |
|
ideas. I've tried just about everything.

1. If he is eating his own poop there are dis-taste pills you can give him |
|
that will make his poop taste bad -- yeah, I know, seriously bizarre notion.
If he is eating the poop of other animals -- dogs, cats, etc -- I think your only option is to keep him away from it.
Sometimes animals eat poop to get nutrients they aren't getting in their food, but that seems unlikely in a pet dog.
Good luck!

10. I tried vitamins and that seems to have slowed him down a bit but |
|
he's still eating and hiding the poop in his bed. YECH. I think he was abused and his previous owners stuck his nose in his poop when he made boo boos in the house. Now he eats it.

I understand that dogs like to eat cat poop because of its high protein content. You just have to make sure the dog does not have access to the kitty litter box -- maybe use one of those covered boxes. If he's eating dog poop, I can't help you. Have you ever heard of "allexperts.com?" You could post the question there if no one here is able to help you. Good luck.

9. No, just his own poop and maybe the poop of the smaller dog. |
|
She gets the same size treats has he does but she's only 3 pounds so I guess her poop is extra tastey. I really should break her treats apart. Maybe his attraction to the extra flavor will deminish.

3. I could use some help here too but my problem is different |
|
my dogs sniff out human feces. There is a large open space behind my home where I let the dogs run and they can find human feces in a flash. There are a few homeless people who live back there and don't bother to dig and bury their waste.
Disgusting.

4. I had a dog that continued to eat poop after her puppies were |
|
gone. Someone said she was lacking something in her diet and to put ketsup on her food. She stopped doing it. We stopped with the ketsup after a couple weeks and she never went back to doing it.

5. I give my poop eater a product called |
|
Distaste. I also try to pick up in the yard frequently
From what I've read, this is a very hard behavior to break completely.

6. He's a crafty little poop-eater. I think he was abused and they stuck his |
|
nose in his poop when he had accidents. So now he eats it. Poor little thing. It is truly sad. But I can't kiss him and I can't have him licking my face or anything for that matter.

|
vet told them to mix in some canned green beans with food
canned green beans make the poop taste well even more awful than poop

15. Green beans don't work with my dog |
|
I feed my bluetick hound green beans daily and she loves her own poop. I have 5 dogs and she will eat the poop of two others in addition to her own. I've basically given up but I don't let her kiss me on the mouth!!

13. my parents have the same problem with one of their dogs |
|
But he enjoys rabbit poo. It's totally gross and makes his beard and breath smell terrible! The only thing they can do is to watch him when he goes outside (they're inside dogs)--but he's sneeky about it.

14. One time when it snowed, I shoveled up |
|
some poop along with the snow and threw it over the chain link fence. The little stinker spotted it and stood at the fence, whining and stomping his feet because he couldn't get at that piece of treasure.:puke:
